Trekking at Alpe Giumello: Walking Between Sky and Mountains

Trekking at Alpe Giumello is a unique experience that blends nature, well-being, and discovery. Located at over 1,500 meters above sea level, this natural terrace overlooking the Valsassina valley offers a network of trails suitable for everyone—from families to seasoned hikers—with breathtaking views stretching from Lake Como to the Alps.

Trails for Every Level

Hiking routes start directly from the Alpe’s parking area and wind through pastures, woods, ridgelines, and alpine huts. One of the most popular routes is the Monte Muggio Loop, a circular trail leading to the summit at 1,799 meters, passing by the iconic panoramic Cross. Along the way, you’ll find informational panels, rest areas, and well-marked signage.

For those seeking an easier trek, there are flat walking paths ideal for families with children, seniors, or beginner hikers. During spring and summer, the meadows come alive with alpine blooms, turning every outing into a sensory journey through color and fragrance.

Hikes Through Nature, History, and Culture

Hiking at Alpe Giumello also means walking through places rich in history. Along the trails, you’ll come across ancient mountain huts, the historic fountain of the Albio Valley, the Romanesque church of Sant’Ulderico, and signs of traditional farming life. Every step tells the story of the deep bond between people and the mountains, between labor and spirituality.

Trails for Every Season

Thanks to the area’s unique terrain, the trails at Alpe Giumello can be enjoyed year-round. In summer, you walk in the cool shade of the woods; in autumn, the warm colors of the foliage create a magical atmosphere; in winter, snowshoeing is a great way to explore; and in spring, nature bursts into bloom. The paths are kept clean and safe thanks to the dedication of the association and local volunteers.

Among the routes connected to the Alpe Giumello area, there is also Trail 12 – Tour of the Alpine Pastures, a circular hike that starts from the Mornico parking area and returns to the same point, passing through Lornico, Tedoldo, Chiaro, Camaggiore, Set and Campofiasco. The route crosses pastures, woods and alpine farms in the Muggiasca area; in Chiaro there is also the Big Bench, one of the best-known panoramic spots in the area.
